IMPHAL, Mar 1: “The Government is working at its best level to restore complete peace in Manipur by talking with several communities on their different demands and I will personally visit Churachandpur and talk with Zomi community leaders on Monday,” said Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho.
Losii Dikho was conferred honorary doctorate degree at the 10th graduation service of Imphal Theological College and Seminary held at Mao Baptist Church, Dewlahland here today.
Imphal Theological College and Seminary presented Master of Divinity certificates to 10 students, Doctor of Ministry certificates to four students and Master of Theology certificate to one student.
Speaking at the ceremony, Losii Dikho remarked that different communities have diverse aspirations and wishes.
But one must review and drop their aspirations if the same aspirations are going to undermine the integrity of the State, the Deputy Chief Minister stated.
Nonetheless, the Government will talk with all the communities and discuss their aspirations, and the Government will do what it can do, Losii Dikho said.
The Deputy Chief Minister appealed to all communities to help in restoring peace in Manipur.
The new Government headed by Yumnam Khemchand has been working at its best level to bring lasting peace and normalcy in the State but it will take some time to restore complete peace, he said.
On being enquired about the Zomi community’s demand for a separate district and their refusal to bury the mortal remains of MLA Vungzagin Valte until the same demand is fulfilled, Losii Dikho said that as a representative of the State Government he had talked with leaders of the Zomi community twice.
He added that he will go to Churachandpur and talk with Zomi leaders tomorrow.
Saying that the Zomi community wishes for peace, stability and normalcy, the Deputy Chief Minister exuded confidence that the fresh tension fuelled by the grief over the death of Vungzagin Valte can be resolved through talks.
Speaking at the ceremony, Imphal Theological College and Seminary president Dr Telen Wilson Kom said that the institute was established in 2006.
He said that the institute conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho considering his compassion, dedication and works for the welfare of mankind.
