Village chief escapes life bid, wife abducted

IMPHAL, Mar 20 : Even as the Chief of Ravalon village, Chandel district escaped a life attempt by some unidentified persons his wife was abducted by the unidentified persons. A group of around five suspected Kuki militants armed with sophisticated weapons forcibly entered the residence of Ravalon village chief, Sumpi Ngamrung at around 7 pm on March 19.
As Sumpi Ngamrung attempted to defend his family and obstruct the intruders, he was fired upon in a clear attempt on his life, said a press release issued by Anal Lenruwl Tangpi (Anal Naga Students’ Union). Chakpikarong branch.
Even though the village chief fortunately escaped the alleged life attempt, the suspected Kuki militants dragged his wife into a waiting vehicle and sped away towards Sajik Tampak.
The ALT Chakpikarong branch has urged the authorities concerned to rescue the abducted woman and ensure her safe return without delay. Apart from a thorough investigation, the student body has also demanded swift arrest of all the perpetrators involved in the attack and the abduction.
Condemning the incident, ALT Chakpikarong branch asserted that any further escalation arising out of these actions shall rest solely upon the perpetrators.
