IMPHAL, Mar 20 : AMFA Senior Women’s League champions of the season 2024-25, FC Imphal are all set for the Indian Women’s League-2 challenge beginning in Bengaluru on March 21.
Ahead of the second tier domestic league tournament for women, the managing committee of the Imphal based club hosted a kit distribution cum blessing ceremony for the team today at Mayai Koibi.
The 30-member team, including five officials, are managed by Ayingbi Lukram. The officials also include chief coach Pukhrambam Vivekananda; assistant coaches Samjetshabam Hemarani and Tensubam Sunanda; and Salam Roshan.
The team to be captained by Th Bhumika with the assistance of vice captain, L Santhoi were encouraged by the managing committee of the club during the function today following their 9-month training in Andro after they lifted the title of the AMFA Senior Women’s League champions of the season 2024-25 last year.
Notably, the team also secured the U-19 Women’s League conducted by the All Manipur Football Association earlier this year.
The team largely feature local players and two from outside the State- one from Assam and one from Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking at the occasion, Ayingbi Lukram said that the team have undertaken a 9-month long training camp in Andro that was intensified in the beginning of the march and are all prepared to face any challenges.
She also expressed hope that the team will certainly produced dominating performances in all the departments and come out victorious in the preliminary round (Group C to be held in Bengaluru) where they will face New Alipore Suruchi Sangha (West Bengal) on March 25, MGM Ambush Club (Chhattisgarh) on March 27 and Kemp Football Club (Karnataka- Bengaluru) on March 29.
Ayingi also lauded the vital contributions provided by two local giants- Eastern Sporting Union and Young Welfare Club in the formation and the preparation of the team.
As the team gear up to represent Manipur in the second tier club tournament, Ayingbi also urged all sports enthusiasts of the State to join in praying and wishing the players to perform well and help the team return with flying colours.
Notably, the winners and the runners up teams of the tournament will earn promotion to the Indian Women’s League.
