IMPHAL, Mar 20: The High Court of Manipur has dismissed an election petition filed against MLA Lourembam Rameshwor by one Md Nasiruddin Khan of Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai.
Notably, Md Nasiruddin Khan contested the last State Assembly election on a National People’s Party (NPP) ticket.
As the election petition was taken up for hearing on March 16, 2026, the petitioner remained unrepresented by anybody.
Earlier, the counsel appearing for the petitioner filed an application praying the Court to allow determination of the counsels representing the election petitioner.
However, the petitioner remained unrepresented in all the proceedings subsequent to allowing the determination of the counsels representing the petitioner.
Noting that the petitioner has been absent in all the subsequent proceedings and citing the Supreme Court’s ruling in the case of Dr P Nalla Thampy Thera vs BL Shankar and others reported in 1984, the High Court dismissed the election petition for non-prosecution.
