KZC chairman's house attacked after Ghy meeting

IMPHAL, Mar 22: A day after Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) held a meeting with Chief Minister Yumnam Khem-chand Singh, its chairman's residence at Churachandpur was attacked today.
A mob, composed mostly of youths, attacked the residence of KZC chairman Henlianthang Thanglet at Churachandpur town at around 2.40 pm.
A Vaiphei leader, Henlianthang Thanglet was part of the delegation that met Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand at Guwahati yesterday.
Sources said, a large number of youth who denounced the Guwahati meeting came out on the street today and started pelting stones at the residence of the KZC chairman.
Security forces deployed in the area fired several rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the mob.
The mob confronted the security personnel for about an hour before they were forcefully dispersed from the area.
The mob then burnt tyres and placed obstacles in the middle of the road preventing vehicular movement.
The situation at Churachandpur remains tense, and additional security forces have been rushed in to thwart unwanted incidents, said sources.
