Funds sanctioned for HC development : CM

IMPHAL, Mar 23 : Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has announced that funds have been sanctioned for the development of the High Court of Manipur.
He made the announcement at the 13th foundation day of the High Court Of Manipur held today at the High Court Complex, Mantripukhri.
Speaking as the special invitee, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of building a strong legal system to serve the public.
Efforts are underway to renovate subordinate Courts and infrastructure of legal institutions will also be boosted in the future, said Yumnam Khemchand.
The judiciary not only safeguards the Constitution but protects the rights of the public. As such, the Government will work diligently to plug all infrastructural shortcomings, he added.
Meanwhile, speaking as the chief guest, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said people have faith in the Constitutional framework of the country and the judiciary.
Courts are institutions where challenges to human rights can be addressed and justice ultimately prevails.
Thus, strengthening the judiciary depends on the public and not on authorities of the law, he maintained.
Saying that the Manipur High Court is an independent institution, the Governor highlighted its achievements in the short period since its establishment.
He spoke about the importance of district judiciary in the justice delivery system and expansion of judicial infrastructure beyond establishing session Courts.
Governor Bhalla also advocated strengthening of specialised Courts and lauded the role of legal service institutions such as Manipur State Legal Services Authority, High Court Legal Services Committee and District Legal Services Authorities in promoting legal awareness and delivering justice for the underprivileged sections of society.
Additionally, M Sundar, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, expressed appreciation to the members of the Manipur Bar Association for making the infrastructure of Manipur High Court migrate towards various existing technologies. He also commended the fast development of the court complex.
In connection with the event, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla flagged off a 7-day ECT programme with the help of an e-Sewa Kendra bus.
Additionally, a documentary titled "13 years of Justice-High Court of Manipur" was screened highlighting the achievement and progress of the High Court of Manipur.
Subsequently, High Court of Manipur Souvenir 2026, Manipur State Legal Services Authority Newsletter, Handbook of Legal Terms and Manipur Judicial Academy Vision Document 2026-2036 were released to commemorate the event. Other notable dignitaries present include High Court of Manipur Chief Justice M Sundar as the functional president; High Court of Manipur Judges A Bimol and A Ganeshwar; Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Director, Manipur Judicial Academy; Lenin Singh Hijam, Advocate General Manipur; S Brajabihari, Chairman, Bar Council of Manipur; N Kumarjit, president, High Court Bar Association of Manipur; Ch. Bimolchandra, president, All Manipur Bar Association and Kh Samarjit, Deputy Solicitor General of India, High Court of Manipur as the guests of honour.
