IMPHAL, Mar 23: Three persons including the Principal and Vice Principal of a school and an individual who runs a day boarding were caught red handed trying to smuggle in notes to students appearing in BOSEM's Class X examination at Thoubal district today.
The three individuals were caught by members and volunteers of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM).
The High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) which started on February 23 concluded today with students appearing for the Mathematics paper.
At the office of DESAM at Keishampat today, its president Romesh said the Principal and Vice Principal of Base Academy Khangabok were preparing notes at the school.
57 students of the school were appearing in the examination at the Sangaiyumpham Higher Secondary School centre. The Principal and the Vice principal were preparing the notes to be supplied to these students, Romesh said.
The DESAM volunteers also seized laptops and mobile phones from their possession, he added.
The third person whom the DESAM detained is identified as Sapam Arunkumar. He runs a day boarding at Khongjam Sapam, Romesh said.
He said, DESAM had received multiple reports of rampant use of unfair means and people passing on notes to students during examination sessions at Khangabok Higher Secondary School examination centre.
When DESAM team conducted an inspection at the centre today, they noticed Sapam Arunkumar trying to smuggle in notes containing answers inside the centre. The team then detained him outside the centre, Romesh said.
The three persons have admitted to supplying notes/answers to their students during previous examination sessions, Romesh said.
The use of unfair means and involvement of teachers in it is highly unfortunate. Such practices, if not curbed in time, could harm the education system and the society, Romesh said.
Romesh said the BOSEM and relevant departments of the Government must take strict actions to prevent use of unfair means in examination and safeguard the sanctity of the examination.
The persons caught red-handed and all involved must be given strict punishments according to the Manipur Prevention of Malpractice in High School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary Examination Act 2024, he said.
Further, the Khangabok Higher Secondary School must be blacklisted as a centre for all future examinations, he added.
