CM urges communities to uphold unity

Imphal, Mar 24 : Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has stated that the idea of Manipur is rooted in the unity and coexistence of its diverse communities.
He reaffirmed that the Meiteis of the State are Manipuri-Meiteis and likewise the Nagas of the State are Manipuri-Nagas, the Kukis are Manipuri-Kukis, and the Meitei Pangals are Manipuri-Meitei Pangals.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the above statement while attending the commemoration of Kangla Attack (Anglo Manipur War-1891) held at Bir Tikendrajit Park (Pheidabung), Imphal today.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister recalled that, during different phases of Manipur’s history, the thirty-six communities have been living together and protecting the integrity of the State.
"We should uphold the values of oneness and unity for a peaceful and a developed State," he emphasised.
Unity is strength, he said and urged all to preserve and instil the sense of unity among ourselves.
The Chief Minister led other dignitaries in paying floral tributes and a 2 minute silence was also observed condoling the martyrs, freedom fighters and unsung heroes.
The function organised by the Justice Committee on Anglo Manipuri War-1891 Martyr & Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) was attended by representatives of various communities and students among others.
