IMPHAL, Mar 24 : The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has stated that Chief Minister Y Khemchand's recent meeting with the Kuki-Zo Council in Guwahati was a positive step toward restoring the long-awaited peace and harmony in the State.
In a statement issued by its publicity and information secretary Y Clinton Mangang, AMSU emphasised that conflicts among communities, both historically worldwide and in Manipur, have always been resolved through proper discussions and political dialogue.
The student body expressed hope that the Chief Minister will not undermine or compromise the 'idea of Manipur' while undertaking the peace building dialogue.
Saying that the crisis in Manipur has deeply affected the student community, AMSU expressed concern over the challenges faced by displaced students.
Restoration of peace is essential for the well-being of future generations, he said and added that development activities will also be further delayed if the turmoil persists. It is high time to understand the economic impact of the conflict, AMSU added.
Noting that there is still a trust deficit among communities that needs to be bridged, it added that this trust deficit is not limited to Meitei-Kuki relations, as evidenced by the clash between Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities.
