IMPHAL, Mar 24 : Union Health Minister JP Nadda has stated that the Centre has so far sanctioned Rs 4,723 crore for the upgradation of RIMS to a modern medical college.
Responding to a query raised by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba during today’s Parliament session, Nadda also mentioned that the Centre has utilized Rs 2,737 crore for the development of 12 medical colleges across the North East, including the Churachandpur Medical College.
He added that these medical colleges are equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and are providing training facilities.
During the discussion, Sanajaoba highlighted the challenges being faced by people in remote areas of Manipur and other North East states in accessing treatment for cancer and rare diseases.
