Remanded for allegedly raping stepdaughter

IMPHAL, Mar 25 : A 37-year-old man has been sent to judicial custody for allegedly raping his minor stepdaughter in Thoubal district.
The man, hailing from a place under the jurisdiction of Khongjom police station, repeatedly sexually assaulted the minor on different occasions.
He was arrested by the police on March 21 after a complaint was filed by his wife and the minor's mother on March 19.
The complaint filed with the police alleged that the minor girl complained about having abdominal pain and bleeding from her private part to her mother on March 19.
The accused stepfather then claimed the minor had fallen down and hurt herself.
The mother and the accused stepfather then took the minor to JNIMS Hospital Porompat, where doctors opined that the minor may have been sexually assaulted.
The minor then revealed to her mother that she was sexually assaulted by the stepfather repeatedly on different occasions and threa- tened her not to disclose the incident to anybody.
Police arrested the  stepfather on March 21.
When the accused was taken to be produced before the Special Judge POCSO Thoubal in-charge at Cheirap Court complex today, angry womenfolk and family members of the minor victim tried to storm the complex.
Police personnel controlled the crowd and managed to take the accused inside the Court complex.
During the hearing, the State prosecutor submitted that the accused has admitted to have sexually assaulted the minor, and prayed for judicial custody.
The Court, after hearing the prosecutor and on perusal of the materials on record, sent the accused stepfather to judicial custody till April 8.
A large number of womenfolk gathered outside the Court complex forcing the police and the accused to sneak out by climbing the Court complex wall. The accused was then transported to Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa in a police vehicle.
