IMPHAL, Mar 25 : The establishment of a Centre for Sanamahism at the Manipur University of Culture (MUC) is actively being pursued, with officials highlighting the collective responsibility in promoting the indigenous religion.
Laishram Radhakanta, Registrar of MUC and Director of Higher Education, announced the ongoing discussions during the inauguration of a six-month certificate course for “Amaipiba Sintak Sindamba”.
The event was organised by the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) at their office in Haying Khongban Uphong Yumpham.
Radhakanta said that they are pushing to set up the study center to give future generations a deeper understanding of the Sanamahi religion.
Discussions between the LSTB and the University are underway to introduce various related courses, but financial constraints are causing delays, he added.
The proposal requires approval from the University’s academic council. A board meeting scheduled for April is expected to address the matter, with hopes of opening the center by July or August of this year, said Radhakanta.
He also emphasized that while individuals may practice the religion in their own way, it is a collective duty to ensure its progress.
The event was also attended by LSTB vice president Vidyapati Senjam, member secretary Maisnam Shivadutta Luwang, and other board members as presidium members.
