IMPHAL, Mar 25 : Thokchom Reshma shone with a treble as FC Imphal kicked off the Indian Women’s League Group C campaign with a 9-1 demolition of MGM Ambush Club at Padukone Dravid CSE Phase 2 (Bengaluru).
FC Imphal dominated the game from the word go and raced to a 4-0 lead till halfway mark before Thokchom Reshma scored a treble and set up the emphatic 9-1 win over the Chhattisgarh based rivals.
Herina Basumatary earned FC Imphal the lead after 7 minutes before Chingangbam Binomala Chanu (10'), Phanjoubam Abema Devi (20') and Leihaorungbam Sanathoi Devi (36') took their turns to swell the lead.
FC Imphal picked up the game from where they left after the restart and extended the lead to 5-0 courtesy of Athokpam Luxmi Devi in the 56th minute before Thongam Reshma Devi quickfired two goals back to back in the 58th and the 63th minutes to pile further pressure on their rivals.
After reeling under huge pressure, MGM Ambush Club pulled back a goal through Janvi Sahu in the 80th minute before Sorokhaibam Silky Devi scored FC Imphal’s 8th goal in the 86th minute and Thongam Reshma Devi rounded off the scoring one minute from time.
FC Imphal will play West Bengal’s Suruchi Sangha Football Club in the next match on March 27.
