Dredging of Takhel Khong Maril begins

IMPHAL, Mar 25: Wall Youths United Club has started desilting the Takhel Khong Maril at Wangkhei Angom Leikai in Imphal East district today with the assistance of local MLA Thangjam Arunkumar.
The cleaning drive will be carried out for five days with the engagement of workers and the necessary machinery.
Speaking in this connection, Wall Youths United Club president Takhellambam Bhupen attributed the occurrence of frequent floods in Wangkhei Angom Leikai to the failure of the concerned authority to dredge the Takhel Khong Maril and the accumulation of floodwaters from the surrounding areas into the locality.
In order to prevent flooding this year, the desilting initiative has been launched from Nongmeibung Kusum Oil Pump to Ayangpalli stretch of the Takhel Khong Maril before the arrival of seasonal rains.
If this water channel is properly maintained, all excess water during heavy rains will flow into the Kongba River. Additionally, he shared that a cleanliness drive will be conducted in all areas under the jurisdiction of the Club during the aforementioned 5 days.
