Imphal, Mar 28 : Transgender activist Malem Thongam, who embarked on a solo cycling journey across Manipur to promote peace and tranquility, was detained by security forces and escorted back home today. Malem Thongam revealed the details of the incident during a public meeting held this evening at a community hall near Kwakeithel Tiddim Ground.
Malem explained that as part of the tour, which began on March 12, they had stayed in Tronglaobi Makha Leikai in the Bishnupur district since yesterday afternoon.
After discussions with security forces, it was agreed that the journey would continue this morning. However, in the pre-dawn hours today, a combined team of Central and State security forces picked them up from the location and dropped them off at their residence, Malem claimed.
The activist stated that the tour was planned to cover all 16 districts, with a strong desire to enter Churachandpur.
Malem emphasized that the journey was not intended to create divisions among different communities and expressed plans to continue the tour in the future.
