RIMS hosts CME on “Autism Spectrum Disorder Management”

Imphal, Mar 2 : The Department of Psychiatry, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, successfully conducted a 1-Day Continuing Medical Education (CME) cum Workshop today on the “Management of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)”.
The event, held at the Kamal Hall, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal, focused on enhancing awareness and strengthening clinical skills in the diagnosis and and management of ASD.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital; Prof S Gojendra Singh, Head, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS; Dr Ng Sameeta, Head, Clinical Psychology, RIMS.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Sunil Kumar praised the rapid organisation of the CME as an example of proactive leadership.
He noted that ASD, once rarely identified, is now a major concern requiring sustained, multidisciplinary care rather than one-time treatment.
He highlighted that even premier institutions like AIIMS New Delhi face challenges in achieving fully satisfactory outcomes.
The Director reaffirmed plans to enhance RIMS’ infrastructure, recruit occupational therapists, and proposed regular CMEs and collaboration with NIMHANS and AIIMS to expand autism services.
The CME cum Workshop featured expert lectures, interactive sessions, and case discussions focusing on early screening, diagnostic tools, behavioural therapies, pharmacological management, and family-centered approaches.
The programme witnessed active participation from doctors, postgraduate trainees, clinical psychologists, and other mental health professionals.
