IMPHAL, Mar 2: The joyous Jewish festival of Purim. was celebrated today at Tupul in Noney district by the Bene Yisrael, Zeliangrong Section, Manipu, commemorating the survival of the Jewish people from a 5th-century BCE plot to destroy them in ancient Persia,
Purim, observed on the 14th of Adar (beginning at sundown on March 2, 2026) marks a significant event in Jewish history and is traditionally celebrated with prayers, scripture reading and community feasting.
The three-day celebration, which will continue till March 4, features reading of the sacred scriptures of the Jewish faith, traditional cultural programmes and a festive gathering. The event also drew participation from members of the local community and well-wishers.
This year's celebration also marks the 37th year of Purim observance by the Bene Yisrael, Zeliangrong Section, Manipur. As part of the programme, Purim Feast Committee, 2026, president Pouh Rampou Kamei hoisted the flag of Bene Yisrael, Zeliangrong Section, Manipur, symbolising unity and faith.
Established in 1989 with adherence to the Messianic Jewish faith, the Bene Yisrael, Zeliangrong Section, Manipur has continued to play a pivotal role in guiding the spiritual movement in the region.
The annual celebration of Purim reflects the community's enduring faith, cultural identity and commitment to preserving the religious heritage.
