IMPHAL, Mar 29 : REYS, Nagamapal defeated CYCLONE, Thangmeiband by 28 runs in the second qualifier to set up the title clash of the 10th MNCA W Prahlada and W Ramananda Elite Trophy with defending champions PTRC, Patsoi Part IV.
In the crucial clash staged today at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, CYCLONE opted to field first and dismissed REYS for 153 runs in 38.2 overs despite KKV Mushtaq’s fighting half century.
CYCLONE batting department however faltered in the chase and slumped to 125 all out in the face of the concerted bowling effort REYS.
Put in to bat first, REYS started wobbly and slipped to 45/4 within 15.5 overs before KKV Mustaque and Kiran Laishram gave the team a brief respite by adding 74 runs off 99 balls for the fifth until Kiran was trapped lbw by Kishan Laishram on 22 in the 33rd over.
KKV Mustaque who completed his half century in 61 balls too departed off the bowling of Nongthombam Denin and the innings went downhill with Reolin Oinam sweeping the tailenders to return with the best haul of 4/26 in 7.2 overs.
Rahul Singh (2/22), Kishan Laishram (2/25) and Nongthombam Denin (2/31) were also among the wickets for CYCLONE.
Chasing 154 for the victory, CYCLONE top order batters did not fare well and the team slumped to 42/5 in 15.3 overs with Naorem Victor, Sohail Akram and Kiran Laishram making early inroads.
Nongthombam Denin who came in at number 6, tried to hold things together but he eventually ran out of partners as Ringku Kangujam and Robertson joined the REYS bowling attack until he holed out to Md Basir Rahman off the bowling of Robertson on a 64-ball 42.
Reolin Oinam was unbeaten on 21 as the innings came to a close in the fourth delivery of the 38th over with the scoreboard reading 125.
Naorem Victor (2/23), Kiran Laishram (2/22), Robertson Laishram (2/14) and Ringku Kangujam (2/28) all returned with two wicket hauls in the innings as Sohail Akram posted 1/24.
