Keke Moirang Kangleirol Kanba Lup hosts 4th Moirang Pana Mukna Kangjei

Moirang, Mar 30 : Keke Moirang Kangleirol Kanba Lup Moirang hosted the 4th edition of Moirang Pana Mukna Kangjei at Moirang Chengei Lampak today as a part of its continuous effort to revive the traditional sport that combines both wrestling and hockey.
The event was opened in the presence of Govindas Konthoujam, Minister for Home and Youth Affairs and Sports as chief guest; Th Shanti, MLA Moirang AC, as functional president. Salam Ibochouba Singh, Khadrakpa of Chingu Thangjing Phamnaiba Cheirap Loishang; Associate Professor Kumam Anthony of Department of Mathematics, Manipur University and others also attended the event.
The exhibition match between Khunthak Pana (Khamba Pana) and Khunkha Pana (Nongban Pana) organised as held during the ancient time, was the highlight of the day that also witnessed the two panas competing in the Yuvi Lapki competition.
Khunkha Pana emerged victorious by 6-3 goals in the exhibition Mukna Kangjei match.
Speaking at the event, Govindas Konthoujam said that it is high time to proudly promote and popularize the game of Mukna Kangjei as the State takes pride in introducing the game of polo to the world.
He lauded Keke Moirang Kangleirol Kanba Lup Moirang's initiative to revive the indigenous game, which has faded over time, in collaboration with the Manipur State Mukna Kangjei Association.
"Such collaboration will boost the revival bid and help the younger generation understand the region's rich cultural and sporting heritage," he said.
Expressing concern over degrading disciplines and social values, he added, "Our society can remain strong and united only when we preserve and follow the culture and tradition passed down by our forefathers."
He also highlighted the sports policy and benefits offered by the State Government to the meritorious sportspersons of the State.
Addressing the event, MLA Th Shanti Singh also emphasized preserving sports and cultural heritage to protect indigenous groups.
He expressed pride in collaborating with Keke Moirang Kangleirol Kanba Lup to promote indigenous sports and cultural elements, noting Mukna Kangjei's slow resurgence across the State and its inclusion in Manipur University events. The exhibition match was historically significant, rooted in Moirang's history, he said while adding that the venue-Chengei Lampak Sports Complex, will be fenced and renovated soon.
