ABVP Imphal’s Women’s Day marathon draws 1000+ runners

IMPHAL, Mar 8: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Imphal Mahanagar organised a marathon in collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS), Khelo Bharat and Khelo India at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
The marathon was held under the theme “Screen Time to Running Time,” encouraging youth and students to shift from excessive digital screen time to a healthy and active lifestyle through sports and physical activity.
The marathon--a 15 km Run (men & women) and a 7 km Women Empowerment Run--attracted more than 1000 runners, including students, sportspersons, and fitness enthusiasts.
In the 15 km men’s category, Kengimlungheing secured the 1st position, Kh Zabed Hussain secured the 2nd position, and Chuchangmeren Ao secured the 3rd position.
In the 15 km women’s run, L Tutu secured the 1st position, followed by K Jamuni in 2nd place, and Shonchuihan Kasar in 3rd place.
In the 7 km Women Empowerment Run, T Rusia secured 1st position, T Sophiya secured 2nd place, and W Bidyalaxmi secured the 3rd position.
The youngest participants of the marathon were M Chanu Chakpisana (7 years) and Henry Maisnam (8 years).
M Chanu Chingkheithanbi (CP) was also specially acknowledged during the event.
YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam, State BJP president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, ABVP National secretary Kamlesh Singh, and YAS Secretary Naorem Praveen Singh, State ABVP president Premlata Meisnam attended the event.
At the event, Govindas Konthoujam appreciated the ABVP for organising the marathon and highlighted the constructive role played by youth in Nation-building.
He stated that the International Women’s Day is a reminder of the strength and contribution of women in society, and events like this marathon promote both women’s empowerment and a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi said the International Women’s Day symbolises the empowerment, dignity, and achievements of women, and encouraged young women to participate actively in sports and leadership roles in society.
ABVP's National secretary Kamlesh Singh emphasised that today’s youth must shift from excessive screen time to active and productive lifestyles. He said that the ABVP has always been committed to building a disciplined, healthy, and socially responsible youth community.
YAS Secretary Naorem Praveen Singh highlighted that sports activities not only improve physical health but also build discipline, confidence, and unity among young people.
State ABVP president Prof Premlata Meisnam said the ABVP has always been dedicated to the holistic development of students and youth.
She emphasised that organising the marathon on the occasion of International Women’s Day is a step towards encouraging women’s participation in sports and promoting awareness about healthy and active lifestyles. ABVP Imphal Mahanagar secretary Manshika Tongbram expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the runners who participated in the marathon and all those who helped organise the event.
