IMPHAL, Mar 8 : S Premjit claimed the title of the 5th DCA Open Rapid Chess Tournament hosted by the D Chess Academy at Tera Sapam Leirak under the aegis of the Manipur Chess Association and Imphal West District Chess Association.
S Premjit secured 7 points to secure the pole position in the competition that was participated by 76 players including 22 rated players and 10 girls, and walked away Rs 5,000 richer.
Haobam Somokanta and Elangbam Shashikanta secured 6 points each to secure the second and third places in the competition and were feted with a cash prize of Rs 3,500 and Rs 2,500 respectively.
Fourth place finisher Ningthem Oinam (5.5 pts) and fifth place winner Prichard Elangbam (5.5 pts) were also feted with cash prizes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 as players who made it to the 6th to 10th positions received a cash prize of Rs 500 each.
Top performing U-15 boys- Dayanand Thoudam of DCA and Punsiba Maisnam of DCA; U-15 girls- Katherine Potshangbam of DCA; U-13 boys- Stanley Meethoiba of DCA and Anish Senjam of DCA; U-13 girls- Rajasmita Hanjabam of DCA and Nency Laishram; U-11 boys- Lamnganba Laitonjam and Magnus Chingsubam of DCA; U-11 girls- Rajkumari Sanghamitra of DCA and Lorena Nameirakpam of DCA; U-9 boys- Tinish Moirangthem of DCA and Leirikhomba Manganga of DCA; U-9 girls- Trijagati Haorambam of DCA and Jasmita Yambem of DCA; U-7 boys- Rajkumar Thoiba of DCA and Korounganba Oinam; U-7 girls- Rajkumari Linthoi and Lingjelleima Thokchom of DCA; Best DCA boys- Williamba Moirangthem of DCA and Veeral Mongjam of DCA; Best DCA girl- Linthoi Belicia; best veterans- Soibam Motilal, Nambam Manikanta and Bit Irom; and the youngest boy- Waikhom Chingkheirel were also feted.
The closing function cum valedictory function of the 2-day tournament that began yesterday, was attended by Dr Senjam Gojendro- HOD Psychiatry at RIMS; Hanjabam Chandrananda- tournament director and Lourembam Sandip Meitei, chairman tournament committee as dignitaries.
