IMPHAL, Mar 9 : Heavyweight Congress leader Kangujam Ranjit, who was elected to the State Assembly for six consecutive terms from Sugnu Constituency, has resigned from his position as Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
He submitted his resignation letter today to All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Copies of his resignation letter were also forwarded to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal, AICC General Secretary in-charge of Manipur Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president O Ibobi, AICC Secretary in-charge of Manipur Christopher Tilak, and the Secretary of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Ranjit first won his State Assembly seat in 2000 on a BJP ticket before joining the Congress party.
Recently, AICC issued a notification appointing K Meghachandra as the new CLP leader and O Ibobi as the MPCC president.
The reasons behind Ranjit's resignation from the Deputy CLP leader's post remain unclear, although some reports suggested there may be differences of opinion among Congress leaders.
