BSF man killed in 'firing from Mongkot Chephu' near Litan

IMPHAL, Apr 10 : Fresh tension erupted in Ukhrul, as a personnel of 170th Battalion, BSF was killed during intense firing between two armed groups this evening at Mongkot Chephu in Ukhrul district near Litan.
The deceased BSF personnel has been identified as Mithun Mondal, a resident of Malda in West Bengal.
Mithun Mondal was struck by a bullet fired from an unknown direction during an exchange of fire between two armed groups around 4.30 pm at Sikipung and Mongkot Chepu under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district while he was on patrol duty.
He was immediately rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, but he later succumbed to his injuries at around 7 pm.
Chief Minister Y Khemchand has condemned the tragic incident in which the BSF Jawan was martyred.
The Chief Minister, in a post on social media, said  that Constable Mithun served the Nation with unwavering courage, dedication, and a deep sense of duty.
His supreme sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered with the highest honour and gratitude, Khemchand said.
Extending his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones, the Chief Minister said that  his thoughts and prayers are with them in this hour of profound grief.
The State Government stands in solidarity with the family, and we remain resolute in our commitment to uphold peace, security, and justice," the post read.
The State police in a bulletin said that they also stand in solidarity with the BSF and the bereaved family.
