IMPHAL, Apr 10 : The mortal remains of the displaced minor girl from Moreh who was found dead under the Singjamei Bridge on April 5, have been claimed by her family members today.
The body, which was deposited at the JNIMS mortuary on April 6, was claimed by the family following an agreement with the Government.
Meanwhile, the Court of Special Judge POCSO Imphal East has remanded the man accused of raping and murdering the minor girl to judicial custody.
Accused Laishram Lanngamba (28), s/o Bira of Moreh Ward number 9, presently staying at Akampat relief camp was produced before the Court under a very tight security by a team of Imphal East police today.
Lanngamba was arrested in connection with the case on the night of April 5, and following his confession, the body of the minor was recovered beneath the old Singjamei Bridge, covered with plastic polythene and rags, at around 1 am on April 6.
The PP for the State submitted that a case has been registered against the accused under Section 103 (murder), 238 BNS (disappearance of evidence or giving false information) and under different sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act.
During the police custody, the accused admitted his involvement in the commission of the heinous offence involving kidnapping and committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault before murdering the victim.
The PP also submitted that the act committed by the accused attract stringent provisions relating to aggravated sexual assault under POCSO Act and murder which are serious offences.
The PP further submitted that there is prima facie evidence against the accused, based on the recovery made at his instance, as well as medical, scientific, and other materials collected during the investigation.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the PP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused to judicial custody till April 24 for smooth investigation of the case.
