IMPHAL, Apr 11: All State and Central Government offices under Lamlai will be locked and "public curfew" will be enforced in and around the institutions, the public of the Constituency has announced.
This decision to lock the offices, except hospitals, electricity and water supply offices, was taken after a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister was not addressed, said Sanjoy Mangsatabam, co-convenor of Lamlai Kendra Apunba Club and Meira Paibi.
Speaking to reporters at Nongada Kanhaimacha Ningshing Shanglen today, Sanjoy said the decision to enforce "public curfew" was jointly taken by 52 clubs and Meira Paibi organisations under Lamlai Constituency.
The "public curfew" will last until perpetrators of the April 7 Tronglaobi bomb attack that killed two children are arrested and punished.
He said the public of Lamlai AC carried out a massive rally on April 7 condemning the killing of the two children and later submitted a 7-point memorandum to the Chief Minister.
The memorandum demanded arrest of perpetrators involved in the Tronglaobi terror attack, and suspension of all CRPF personnel involved in the firing that killed and injured several protesters within 24 hours, Sanjoy said.
After the Government failed to meet the demands, a meeting, attended by members of the public and representatives of 52 clubs and Meira Paibi organisations under Lamlai, was then convened, and a decision was taken to impose public curfew in and around Government offices, Sanjoy said.
The offices, except those belonging to electricity, water supply and hospitals, will be locked and public curfew will be imposed until the demands are met, Sanjoy said.
The Government must promptly take actions to arrest the perpetrators of the Tronglaobi attack, suspend the CRPF personnel involved in the firing on protesters, and convene a Special Assembly session, Sanjoy said.
A Meira rally will be held this evening and more intense agitation will follow if the Government doesn't act on the public's demands, Sanjoy added.
