Khemchand prays for peace, harmony

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today paid befitting tributes to Maharaj Narasingh on his 176th death anniversary at Kangla, Imphal.  
The Chief Minister also offered tarpan at Nungjeng Pukhri, Kangla and paid obeisance to the Shree Shree Govindajee Jalakeli Pala led by Maharajkumari Hema-manjuri.
Offering floral tributes at the resting site of Narasingh, guard of Honour, gun salute, and the sounding of the last post by a contingent of the 1st Manipur Rifles, followed by a two-minute silence were the highlights of the observance.
While paying homage at the Samadhi of Maharaj Narasingh, Khemchand sought the blessings of the Almighty for a peaceful and harmonious State.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, the Chief Minister recalled that Maharaj Narasingh visited Cachar during the period of Seven Years Devastation and united the Manipuri people residing in different parts of the region through his tactful diplomatic efforts.
With the help of the British, the Manipur levy was formed which later made it possible to drive the Burmese away and re-establish an independent Manipur, he added.
In his presidential address, Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh emphasized that every Manipuri must remember the sacrifice made by their great forefathers and carry forward their legacy.
The future generation should always remember and uphold their courage, he added.

The programme organised by Manipur State Archaeology under Art and Culture Department was also attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLA's, Chief Secretary, Commissioner to Chief Minister and other high ranking officials of civil and police.
