MOIRANG, Apr 10 : Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam has stated that the Government is considering deploying State forces in place of the CRPF at the periphery of Tronglaobi in Bishnupur.
He made this statement during a visit to Tronglaobi today.
Accompanied by Moirang AC MLA and Bishnupur SP, Govindas took stock of the situation in the area, inspecting the barricade at Uyungmakhong, the CRPF post at P Gelmol Village that was stormed by protesters, and the house struck by a projectile that killed two children.
He also interacted with the locals of Tronglaobi.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of his visit, the Minister said that the Government is actively working to address some of the demands raised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) in connection with the recent tragedies at Tronglaobi - the killing of sleeping children in a bomb attack and the CRPF’s firing that resulted in the deaths of three protesters and injuries to several others.
To a media query regarding the arrest of three United Kuki National Army (UKNA) cadres following the Tronglaobi incidents, Govindas stated that some details cannot be made public at this time.
He assured that the information will be shared once concrete details are established.
The Minister stated that he visited the village on the instructions of the Chief Minister to address some of the demands raised by the JAC.
Notably, the demands raised by the JAC include the relocation of Central security forces currently deployed in valley areas to hill areas, and the transfer of responsibility for safeguarding valley districts to State forces.
The JAC also called for a military crackdown on Kuki militants, as well as for the Government to take full responsibility for those killed and injured in the incident
Additionally, the JAC demanded a judicial inquiry into the role of the 8 Battalion CRPF stationed at P Gelmol Village and the 2 J&K LI Company at Tronglaobi.
They also called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killing of the two children and the injury of their mother.
