BSF lodges FIR at Litan PS

UKHRUL, Apr 11 : A day after the fatal incident at Mongkot Chephu, a Kuki village adjoining the Litan bridge, where Constable (GD) Mithun Mandal of A Company, 170 Battalion BSF succumbed to bullet injury, an FIR has been lodged at Litan police station by the Boarder Security Force
The deceased was shot on April 10, 2026, between 4:40 pm and 4:45 pm at Mongkot Chepu village under Litan police station, approximately 1.5 Km southwest of the police station.
According to the complaint filed by Assistant Commandant Neeraj Nauti-yal, BSF personnel were deployed at an observation point in the Mongkot Chepu Bazar area from 12 noon to 6 pm as a part of operational duty. The team comprised two subordinate officers and two other ranks.
During the deployment, the FIR stated that intermittent crossfire reportedly took place between armed miscreants operating from the Mongkot Chepu (Shangkai hill) and Leingangching hill areas.
At around 4:40 pm, armed miscreants allegedly opened fire from the Thoubal river hill ridge towards the BSF personnel.
As per the FIR, in response, Constable Mithun Mandal retaliated by firing three rounds towards the direction of the attack. However, he sustained a gunshot injury at the “back” of his left shoulder around 4:45 pm.
Following the incident, BSF troops launched effective retaliation, after which the firing from the miscreants’ side ceased, the FIR said. The company commander, along with a quick reaction team and medical personnel, rushed to the spot. First aid was administered under operational conditions before the injured constable was evacuated to RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
The FIR stated that Mandal was admitted to the hospital at around 5:35 pm but was declared brought dead by the attending doctor at approximately 5:50 pm.
A case has been registered at Litan police station under Sections 103 (murder) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 25(1-C) of the Arms Act. The accused have been identified as unknown armed miscreants.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Ukhrul Times
