IMPHAL, Apr 12: The Meetei Yaipha Lup – London, a not-for-profit organization of the Meetei/Meitei community living in Europe has expressed shock, grief, and condemnation over the explosion that killed two children and injured their mother in Tronglaobi recently.
The April 7 blast killed a 5-year-old boy and a 5-month-old girl and left their mother critically injured.
This heartbreaking incident was compounded by further violence, in which three Meetei civilians lost their lives and at least 25 others were injured in CRPF firing. These back-to-back tragedies mark a deeply disturbing escalation in the ongoing unrest in the State, said MYL in a statement.
The prolonged Manipur conflict since May 3, 2023 has already claimed the lives of more than 250 persons, displaced over 60,000 people, injured more than 1,000 individuals, and left 32 persons missing. These numbers reflect an immense humanitarian crisis that continues to devastate families and communities. "MYL expresses their deepest condolences to the bereaved families and stands in solidarity with all those affected," it said.
It called on all communities living in the State to come forward and unequivocally condemn the acts of violence.
"It is imperative to unite in rejecting hatred and to work collectively toward rebuilding a peaceful and harmonious society. The massacre of innocent children must be condemned without hesitation or division," MYL said.
It further called for immediate efforts to restore normalcy across Manipur.
"Every individual must be allowed to move freely anywhere in the State without fear or restriction. Peace, trust, and coexistence must be actively rebuilt at all levels of society," it added.
"As members of the diaspora living away from home, MYL strongly urges the Government to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and properties of every citizen in the State. Ensuring safety, justice, and accountability must remain the highest priority of the State to its citizens. If no one fought except on his own conviction, there would be no wars," MYL said.
