IMPHAL, Apr 12 : As protests continue over the tragic killings of two children at Tronglaobi on April 7, the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (CJFD) has urged the State Government to stop playing with the emotions of the people.
Today, volunteers of the Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Development Committee and Keirao Apunba Club and Meira Paibi staged a sit-in protest at Keirao Khunou in response to the bomb attack at Tronglaobi.
Speaking to the media, CJFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba stated that the ongoing crisis, which has persisted since May 3, 2023, has taken a heavy toll on the people.
Stating that the Meetei village volunteers have surrendered all their arms in support of the Government's peace initiative, he pointed out that the Kuki groups, however, haven't stopped attacking the Meetei civilians.
He questioned why the Government has not taken any action to disarm the Kukis to this day.
Jeetendra, while recounting the bomb attack that claimed the lives of an infant and her five-year-old brother at Tronglaobi, stated that three people were killed in CRPF's firing during protests against the failure of Central forces to protect civilians.
Protests against these twin tragedies continue to this day, he said, accusing the Government of treating protesters like troublemakers.
The Government had claimed to have arrested three individuals in connection with the Tronglaobi bomb attack, but their identities remain undisclosed, Jeetendra said.
Noting that the Chief Minister has been advocating for peace at multiple events, the CJFD convenor stated that the Government, however, must refrain from engaging in appeasement politics of the Kukis.
Despite public demands for a military crackdown on Kuki militant groups, the State Government has been holding talks with them, he said, further accusing the Government of ignoring the aspirations of the people.
The demand for a separate homeland by Kuki groups will persist as long as the Government continues its appeasement politics, he said and urged the Government to take concrete steps to identify illegal immigrants.
How long will the Government continue its drama?, he asked, expressing a desire for the Chief Minister and the Home Minister to understand the sentiments of the people and act accordingly.
He further stated that identifying illegal immigrants is crucial for restoring peace in Manipur.
It is time for the people to launch a massive movement to defer the census operation until illegal immigrants are identified, he asserted.
