IMPHAL, Apr 13 : Sainik School Imphal (SSI) scripted a new chapter in its football history by becoming the undisputed champions in both the U-15 and U-17 categories for boys among all Sainik Schools of the Northeastern Region.
In the football competition hosted by Sainik School Punglwa in Nagaland, SSI Imphal U-15 and U-17 boys’ teams defeated all four other Sainik Schools to become the undisputed champions, said the Sainik School Imphal in a press statement.
The teams, captained by Cdt Altaf Singhamayum (U-17) and Cdt Thoungamba (U-15) were accorded a warm felicitation upon their return on April 11, it said.
The Principal of SSI, Col A Rajiv lauded the efforts of the athletes and the coaching staff including coach Surmani Singh, who was attached through SAI.
Speaking at the occasion, he also reiterated the core values of dedication, discipline and concerted hard work, it said.
He further stated that the football supremacy of SSI has returned after a long gap and personally congratulated both the winning captains, it said.
The teams who were accompanied by Th Meneka Devi, TGT; Nb Sub Salam Nabakumar, NCC staff and Surmani, coach, will now compete at the All India Level competition, it added.
