IMPHAL, Apr 1: A street corner meeting and a poster campaign were held at Keishamthong today in connection with the 46th Realisation Month, being observed by the All Manipur Students' Union.
AMSU president Lukram Malangba said the month-long observation was launched on March 17 under the theme "Realise to Save the Indigenous Peoples of Manipur".
As part of the observance, street corner meetings, poster campaigns, academic campaigns, blood donation camps and public rallies are being organised with the objective to educate people about the issues facing Manipur and to safeguard the indigenous communities, Malangba said.
The poster campaign launched today emphasises the need for the Government to uphold and implement accords it signed with AMSU and AMSCOC in 1980 and 1994 to identify illegal immigrants, he said.
It also urged the Government to first update the National Register of Citizens with 1951 as the base year and conduct census later, he added.
The Government must prioritise the interests of the indigenous peoples, and stop balkanisation of the State, Malangba further said.
