Trans-border smuggling networks busted

Mizoram Police have dismantled multiple trans-border smuggling networks in a series of operations over the past week, seizing narcotics valued at Rs 25.01 crore and arresting eight persons, including two Myanmar Nationals.
The crackdown, carried out between March 25 and March 31, targeted trafficking routes across the State. Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) H Ramthlengliana said those arrested include four individuals from Manipur and one from Assam.
The largest seizure was made on March 25, when a CID (Special Branch) team intercepted a truck at Tuirial bridge near Aizawl. The vehicle, travelling from Seiling in Saitual district, was found to be carrying 19.836 kg of methamphetamine (Yaba) tablets valued at Rs 15.86 crore.
During the search, police also recovered a US manufactured SIG SAUER P320SP pistol, along with two magazines and 40 live rounds. The driver, Lalhnehzova (23), a resident of Zokhawthar in Champhai district along the Indo-Myanmar border, was arrested.
In three separate operations conducted between March 27 and March 29 near Keifang in Saitual district, police intercepted three vehicles and recovered a total of 4.46 kg of heroin valued at Rs 8.93 crore. Five persons, including four from Manipur and one from Assam, were arrested in connection with these seizures.
In another operation on March 31, two Myanmar Nationals were apprehended in the Zembawk area of Aizawl with 104 grams of heroin worth Rs 20.4 lakh.
Police said multiple cases have been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the Arms Act, and the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Further investigation is underway.
