Vehicle lifter sent to judicial custody

IMPHAL, Apr 2 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, remanded a 19-year-old vehicle lifter to judicial custody till April 16 to facilitate smooth investigation of the case.
Accused Md Zahid (19), son of the late Md Helaluddin of Lilong Tolen Khul, was produced before the Court after completing police custody period.
The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) for the State informed the Court that on March 19, one Sagolsem Surbala filed a written complaint, reporting that her vehicle was stolen that morning while parked on Gynae Road behind the Cancer Department at the RIMS Hospital complex.
During the investigation, information was received from the Lilong Police Station indicating that the accused had been arrested along with the stolen vehicle from his residence.
Subsequently, a team of Lamphel police station went to Lilong and re-arrested the accused in connection with the present case.
Further investigation revealed that the accused is linked to an active vehicle theft racket and continues to withhold crucial information related to the case.
After hearing the submission of the APP and reviewing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to judicial custody till April 16 to ensure a smooth investigation.
