IMPHAL, Apr 2: There is nothing people can expect from the BJP-led State Government; it is a Government which has failed miserably to even maintain law and order.
This was stated by former Member of Parliament Dr T Meinya.
He was speaking at a reception function held in honour of newly elected Imphal West-I District Congress Committee president Hawaibam Ibotombi at Konthoujam Block Congress Committee office, Awang Jiri.
Dr Meinya asserted that there is nothing people can expect from the incumbent BJP-led Government.
The Government exists only in name. It has failed on all fronts including development and law and order, he said.
Following the May 3, 2023 crisis, the people of Manipur suffered untold misery for a long time including one year under the President’s Rule.
On February 4, 2026, a popular Government was reinstalled with Y Khemchand as the new Chief Minister. Two Deputy Chief Ministers and two Cabinet Ministers were also sworn in on the same day.
Even though it has been two months since the new Government was installed, the Chief Minister is still unable to fill in the seven vacant ministerial berths, Dr Meinya said.
Chief Minister Y Khemchand met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Delhi recently but expansion of the State Cabinet to its full strength was nowhere on the agenda.
The former Lok Sabha Member asserted that the failure to expand the Council of Ministers to the full strength is detrimental to the State’s development.
He said that the State’s development can be accelerated if the State Cabinet has the full strength of 12 Ministers.
The Government is still unable to resettle IDPs or ensure free movement on National Highways, he remarked.
Manipur needs a Government which stands and works for the people, he asserted.
Dr Meinya then called upon all the people to work collectively to install a people-centric Congress Government in the 2027 State Assembly election.
Newly elected Imphal West-I District Congress Committee president Hawaibam Ibotombi said that he would work at his best level to strengthen the Congress party under the leadership of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and MPCC president Okram Ibobi. Imphal West-I District Congress Committee comprises Konthoujam AC, Sekmai AC, Patsoi AC and Lamsang AC.
