In a follow-up to a drug seizure made on March 28 at Ngathal ground in Churachandpur district, Manipur Police, in coordination with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), intensified anti-narcotics operations and recovered an additional 232 soap cases of heroin on April 1.
With the latest seizure, the total recovery in the case has risen to 439 soap cases, amounting to approximately 6.55 kg of heroin, according to police officials.
The second operation was launched on the basis of inputs obtained during the interrogation of those arrested earlier. Acting on the leads, a joint team comprising Manipur Police, the NCB, and the Assam Rifles carried out an interception operation at Ngathal ground, leading to further recoveries.
Two individuals—Paumuanlian Tungnung (23) of Vaal Veng village and Lianminthang Neihsial (26) of Nazareth village in Saikot, were arrested in connection with the case. During the initial operation on March 28, the joint team had seized 207 soap cases containing heroin of Myanmar origin, weighing around 3.3 kg.
Police said the accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023. Investigations are underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify other persons involved in the network.
