Imphal, Apr 5 : The All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) hosted its second annual “Sajibu Khudol Tamba Ee Gi Khongul Leeba” programme at the Leisangkhong Kabui Khul community hall on Sunday.
The initiative aimed to foster peace and unity among the diverse ethnic communities residing in the region by highlighting shared cultural values and historical relationships.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Chinglemba Wahengbam, president of AMESCO; Loitongbam Ibotombi, advisor of AMESCO; Gaithaolung Maringmei, Thoubei Leisangkhong Kabui Khul; Arshad Baseimayum, convenor of  Meipak Ningthou Committee; and James Kamei, member of Leisangkhong Kabui Popular Club.
In a release, AMESCO highlighted the event’s core philosophy: celebrating the traditional practice of women gifting handmade tokens of love to their brothers, symbolizing enduring bonds.
This age-old custom, tied to the blooming of ‘Kusumlei’ and ‘Kombirei’ flowers, marks the new year and beautifully metaphorises the shared ‘bloodline’ that unites the region’s communities.
Loitongbam Ibotombi noted that despite numerous meetings and discussions on living together harmoniously, a lack of trust has emerged among communities, a situation that needs collective acknowledgement.
He emphasized AMESCO’s commitment to bridging gaps through various festivals like Christmas, Eid-Ul-Juha, Gaan Ngai and “Eche Echal Singbu Ningsingba Numit”, all as part of the “Ee Gi Khongul Leeba” initiative.
AMESCO urged all residents to be vigilant against those using religion for division and called for collective effort to protect Manipur, reminding everyone of their shared responsibility to ensure strength and unity within the region.
