IMPHAL, Apr 6: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the 47th foundation day of the BJP at Noney district headquarters today.
The BJP's foundation day observance at the party's Imphal office was held in the absence of the Chief Minister and State party president A Sharda.
Yumnam Khemchand attended the function at Longmai Part-III Multipurpose Hall on his way back to Imphal from his three-day trip to Jiribam district.
At Noney, Khemchand was warmly welcomed by Nungba BJP MLA Dipu Gangmei and Rongmei Naga locals.
The Chief Minister and State BJP president, A Sharda Devi hoisted the BJP flag at Longmai Common Ground in Noney town amidst the singing of Vande Mataram.
Accompanied by eight BJP MLAs, the Chief Minister and the State BJP president paid floral tributes to the portrait of two ideological founders of BJP, late Deendayal Upadhyaya and late Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee.
Speaking at the foundation day function, Khemchand said that the BJP is a party which loves the North East.
He recalled how former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee established the DoNER Ministry for the development of the North-Eastern region and added that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who declared in the Parliament that "Manipur’s territorial integrity will always be protected."
He further credited PM Modi for converting the Centre’s Look East Policy to Act East Policy with an objective to open the Trans-Asian Highway to South East Asian countries.
Khemchand thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for assuring all help in the development of the State.
After the function at Noney, Khemchand shared "glimpses" of the event on Facebook, and said it reflected "the deep-rooted commitment and enthusiasm of our Karyakartas".
"...I was accorded a warm and heartfelt welcome by a large gathering, accompanied by a vibrant troupe of dancers, while en route from Jiri to Imphal. Their energy and unwavering faith in our people-centric governance and our shared vision of a Viksit Manipur 2047 are truly motivating," Khemchand wrote on Facebook.
In the post, Khemchand also expressed "sincere gratitude" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah "for their unwavering commitment to preserving the unity, integrity, and future of Manipur, while driving inclusive development across the region."
"I commend Shri Dinganglung Gangmei and all Mandal Karyakartas for organizing this impressive programme with exemplary dedication and collective spirit. With the continued trust and support of our people, we remain resolute in our mission to build a peaceful, united, and prosperous Manipur for generations to come," Khemchand said on Facebook.
Upon his arrival at Imphal, Khemchand was welcomed by womenfolk at Nupi Keithel 1, (Women’s Market-1).
He offered prayer to the idol of Leimarel Sidabi and took blessings from the Goddess.
Meanwhile, the foundation day celebration at the party's Imphal office was attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, BJP MLAs including Th Biswajit, Karam Shyam, L Ibomcha, Dr Usham Deben, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president Nongthombam Nimbus, other part leaders and workers.
