IMPHAL, Apr 7: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), has strongly condemned "calculated" attacks being carried out by armed Kuki armed militants on Naga villages of Litan, Sinakeithei, S Laho Sharkaphung, Thoyee, and Kamjong.
The coordinated acts of aggression, involving the use of sophisticated weaponry, illegal drone surveillance, and indiscriminate firing of live ammunition, have resulted in serious casualties among innocent Naga civilians, said ANSAM.
"The deliberate targeting of unarmed villagers by illegal immigrants using sophisticated weapons and inscribing of belligerent title like ‘Kukiland’ within the Naga ancestral lands of Ireng, Konsakhul, Thonglang, and Waphong Inthan in Senapati district in Manipur reflects a systematic attempt to instill fear and destabilize the Naga homeland," ANSAM said.
In a partisan manner, ANSAM said, the security forces have meanwhile conducted operations in Naga areas dismantling the village bunkers and allegedly assaulted Naga womenfolk who have been guarding and advocating for peace.
The "failure" of the security forces to act decisively and take up lawful action against armed Kuki Suspension of Operation (SoO) militants and illegal immigrants have fostered an environment where armed groups operate with impunity, undermining public trust and the very principle of rule of law, it added.
At this juncture, the "conspicuous silence of elected hill representatives" in the Government and lack of responsive actions from both the State and Central Governments is unfortunate, ANSAM said.
The State and the Central Governments must ensure the protection of the Naga villages and the "indigenous populace" who have been affected by acts of terrorism to restore peace and order, ANSAM said. ANSAM said it is unwavering in its commitment to safeguard the historical and political rights of the Naga people.
"Continued partial action" of the Government of Manipur and India in favour of the SoO Kuki militants and illegal immigrants and negligence of this crisis will have far-reaching consequences for peace and stability in the region, it added.
