IMPHAL, Apr 7: In the backdrop of the Tronglaobi terror attack, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asked the Government of Manipur to launch an effective military crackdown against Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office this afternoon, COCOMI convenor YK Dhiren said that two innocent minors lost their lives and their mother sustained critical injuries because Central security forces allow Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists free movement and overlook their activities.
The Government of Manipur must launch an effective military crackdown against Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists immediately and give a reply to the people about its course of action, Dhiren said.
The COCOMI convenor has also appealed to all the people to carry out democratic agitation in their respective localities until the State Government comes up  with a befitting reply to the terror attack and launches military crackdown against Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
Vehemently condemning the heinous act of killing two innocent children and inflicting critical injuries to their mother while they were asleep, he asserted that the sole responsibility of the heinous crime must be borne by the Central Government, State Government, the Chief Minister and MLAs.
The Government must also bear responsibility for the deaths and casualties suffered by civilians in the course of protest against the terror attack, Dhiren said.
He said that the Government has been patronising the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists instead of working to resolve the protracted crisis.
He also cited Chief Minister Y Khemchand’s claim that IDPs could not be resettled and highways remain inaccessible due to trust deficit between the communities.
COCOMI is of the view there is little conflict between the two communities but some people with vested       interests have been provoking the masses and inciting unrest and violence consistently, he said.
But the Government has been overlooking this fact for a long time, and its consequence is the grave situation seen today, the COCOMI convenor said.
To a query, Dhiren said that COCOMI has been demanding military crackdown  since several months back and the committee has been monitoring the Government’s response and its policies.
Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists succeeded in carrying out the Tronglaobi terror attack because of security lapses and it evoked spontaneous protest from the public. Whether the protest should intensify or relax will depend on the Government’s action and response, Dhiren said.
