IMPHAL, Apr 7 :  The Indian Army's 19 Garhwal Rifles inaugurated a new basketball court at De Paul School in Senapati, Manipur, under Operation Sadbhavana.
The project was executed in collaboration with the local community, highlighting the Army's commitment to community development and nation-building in remote areas.
Personnel from the 19 Garhwal Rifles took the lead in constructing the court, extending their role beyond security duties to support grassroots development and community welfare.
The basketball court is expected to greatly enhance the school’s sporting facilities. School authorities believe it will encourage greater student participation in physical activities, helping children develop essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, leadership, and resilience, while also fostering a healthier and more active school environment.
Such community-centric efforts by the Indian Army are seen as vital in remote hilly regions like Senapati, where access to modern sports amenities is often limited.
The inauguration of the court stands as a symbol of collaboration between the armed forces and civil society, reinforcing the spirit of service, compassion, and shared progress in Manipur’s hinterlands.
