IMPHAL, Apr 8 : Protest or Rowdyism/Goondaism ? Or goons under the garb of protesters ? Some rogue individuals attacked the residence of Keisham-thong AC MLA Nishikant at Sega Road, Thouda Bhabok Leikai, last night around 11.
The attackers pelted stones and projectiles at the MLA's residence, cau-sing significant damage.
Taking advantage of the unrest in Manipur, some unidentified miscreants also destroyed the CCTV camera outside the MLA's residence.
Moreover, several windows were shattered as the attackers threw stones and fired slingshots.
While widespread protests were taking place across the State in response to the tragic killings of a toddler and a 5-year-old boy in Tronglaobi yesterday, the protest at Sega Road escalated into a particularly violent incident.
Before targeting the MLA’s residence, the miscreants pulled out the iron railingd put up on the road medians and used them to block the road.
They also used offensive language during the attack.
As the situation intensified, a team of security forces, led by Imphal West SP Ksh Shivankanta and Brigadier Pratyush Kumar of the 9 Sector Assam Rifles in Keithelmanbi, rushed to the scene on the Chief Minister’s instructions.
They dispersed the mob and prevented further damage.
MLA Nishikant expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and the security forces for their prompt intervention, which helped avert a more severe escalation.
