Tense situation continues to mark Imphal

IMPHAL, Apr 8 : Situation remained tense across the five valley districts in the State with curfew, partial internet suspension and heavy police deployment in place after the outbreak of violence over a bomb attack by Kuki militants that left two children dead at Tronglaobi yesterday.
No fresh violence was reported this morning, but clashes between security forces and protesters were reported late Tuesday night at some places in Imphal East and Imphal West.
The confrontations prompted the police to fire tear gas shells to disperse the demonstrators.
Protesters also burnt tyres on the streets at Khurai Lamlong and Wangkhei in Imphal East district, and at Uripok and Kwakeithel in Imphal West.
After the overnight clashes, there was a tussle between police and the local public at Andro Parking area when they attempted to gather at the nearby club area between 3 and 3.30 pm. The police had to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh chaired a Combined HQ Security Meeting at the Chief Minister's Secretariat today.
The meeting deliberated on the prevailing law and order situation in the State. It was attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Security Advisor, Chief Secretary, DGP, 3 Corps Commander and other high ranking officers from the Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, other Central Security Forces and intelligence agencies.
