IMPHAL, Apr 8 : The State unit of the INDIA Bloc has condemned the killing of two siblings in a bomb attack by Kuki militants at Tronglaobi, Bishnupur, as well as the firing on protesters by CRPF, which resulted in three deaths and several injuries.
Today, a team of INDIA Bloc representatives from various political parties, including INC, CPI, CPI(M), RJD, NCP, AAP, AITC, and Shiv Sena, visited Raj Medicity and assessed the condition of those who sustained injuries.
Speaking to the media, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Meghachandra stated that the double-engine BJP Government has failed to protect the lives and property of the people of Manipur, condemning both the CRPF's firing on protesters and the bomb attack that killed a toddler and her five-year-old brother at Tronglaobi.
The mother of the deceased siblings was also critically injured in the bomb explosion.
People attempted to storm the CRPF post because they were disheartened by the failure of the Central forces to prevent the attack, he said, adding that firing live rounds on protesters and killing them was excessive.
Asking when the Centre and State Government will restore normalcy in Manipur, the Congress MLA stated that violence continues to erupt, despite the Government's claims of the situation improving.
The Government, if truly committed, can restore normalcy swiftly, he said.
Referring to the resurgence of violence in Manipur after the Chief Minister's return from Jiribam, which led to fatalities, Meghachandra added that the Government cannot even ensure the safety of sleeping children.
There is no security for the people at all, the Congress MLA said, questioning how people can live in such a situation.
Nobody knows what will happen to them in the next moment, he continued.
He also stated that the Government has not worked out a solution for the protracted crisis in Manipur.
Amid the ongoing crisis between the Meitei and Kuki communities, another clash has erupted between the Naga and Kuki, he said.
The Government’s intelligence has failed, he said.
CPI leader Laishram Sotinkumar, on the other hand, said that no action has been taken up by the Government to address the issue although there has been a change in the Chief Minister.
He added that the Centre and the Manipur Government have failed to resolve the crisis.
The Kukis have now started waging a war against the Nagas as well, the Left leader said, questioning what the Prime Minister has been doing.
He also stated that the economy of Manipur is in critical condition and urged the Government to take immediate action to resolve the issue.
