NEW DELHI, May 11
In another alleged incident highlighting the harassment faced by people from the North East in the National capital, two young women from Assam and Nagaland were allegedly assaulted, molested, and subjected to racist remarks in Delhi’s Nehru Place area on Sunday.
According to the police, a PCR call regarding women in distress was received at the Kalkaji police station at around 7 am, following which local police teams rushed to the spot and found the two women there.
Following this, the police reportedly filed an FIR at the Kalka Ji police station and launched raids to arrest the accused.
According to the victims’ statement recorded during the preliminary enquiry, the incident took place at around 6.30 am on May 10 outside a club in Nehru Place. The complainants alleged that two youths started passing remarks at them while they were having tea outside the club.
This was soon followed by more individuals joining in, provoking a fight and physically assaulting the women. The victims claimed that they were subjected to obscene remarks and verbal abuse.
According to one of the women, the situation escalated after she began recording a video on her phone, following which the youths allegedly abused the two women and tore their clothes. The accused reportedly fled before police arrived at the scene.
Police said both women were moved to AIIMS, where their medical examinations were conducted. CCTV footage from nearby areas was analysed and witnesses, including passersby, were identified by cops.
As part of the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area and identified several witnesses and bystanders who were present at the scene during the incident. Police said eight individuals, including witnesses and passersby, were detained for questioning during the probe, which eventually led to the identification of four key accused allegedly involved in the incident.  Northeast News
