One killed in blast

IMPHAL, May 15: A man was killed in a suspected accidental blast today at around 12.10 am at Singjamei Chongtham Leirak, along the National Highway Imphal-Moreh road, under Singjamei police station in Imphal West.
According to sources, the blast may have occurred accidentally while placing a hand grenade or possibly while attempting to hurl it while riding a two-wheeler.
The deceased has been identified as Ningthou-khongjam Sushil (21), s/o N Ranjit of Moidangpok Khu-nou Mamang Leikai.
Locals from Singjamei and surrounding areas reported hearing the explo- sion.
When residents and police personnel rushed to investigate, they found an unknown man lying in a pool of blood next to a two-wheeler bike opposite Singjamei Supermarket.
A team of Imphal West police immediately arrived at the site to examine the area.
A team of State bomb experts also conducted a thorough search for any explosives in the vicinity using metal detectors.
The deceased was later taken by personnel from Singjamei police station and deposited at RIMS morgue for verification and post-mortem examination.
Singjamei Police Station has registered a case in connection with the incident and seized the two-wheeler motorcycle, bearing Mani-pur registration number used by the deceased.
Singjamei Kendra Apunba Lup (SKAL) and the Chongtham Leikai Social Welfare Organisation appealed to all concerned to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
