NONEY, May 17: Liangmai Naga women staged a sit-in protest today at Khumji (Lukhambi) Bazar shed, Noney District Headquarters, demanding immediate and unconditional release of six Nagas, including a Pastor and a Reverend, abducted by Kuki militants from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village on May 13.
During the protest demonstration, organised by the Liangmai Naga Women’s Khumji, Longmai Area, the protesters held placards bearing slogans such as “Release the hostages,” “Protect innocent lives,” “Kidnapping is not justice,” “Human rights for every community,” “Innocent lives must not be bargaining tools,” and “End violence against civilians.”
Speaking during the protest, women leaders urged the Kuki elders and leaders to ensure the unconditional release of the six innocent Liangmai hostages on humanitarian grounds.
They also appealed to both the State and Central Governments to take full responsibility in tracing and rescuing the abducted persons.
The women leaders further warned that if the six hostages are not released soon, the Zeliangrongpui Women’s Organization, Longmai Area, would intensify its democratic agitation along National Highway-37, the Imphal–Jiribam Road.
