IMPHAL, May 19 : Defending Champions THAU, Thangmeiband and AKSDO, Khangabok opened the 5th MNCA Sr Women One Day Trophy with comprehensive wins at two venues today.
In the Group A opening match staged at THAU ground, THAU thrashed PTCC, Patsoi by 8 wickets riding on a strong bowling department.
PTCC opted to bat first but collapsed at 83 in 20 overs with Kongjengbam Nonibala (4/10 in 5 overs), Keisham Nisha (2/10 in 3 overs), Hijam Malemkhombi (2/18 in 4 overs) and Thoithoibi Ahongshangbam (2/23) running riot to share 10 wickets.
THAU then rode on an unbeaten 60-run third wicket partnership between Seterny Devi Brahmacharimayum 28 not out off 43 balls and Ronibala Thokchom 23 not out off 21 to seal the victory after both the opening partners-Robeni 2 and Ch Leithoi 15 fell to Niruka of PTCC (2/22).
K Nonibala was declared player of the match.
Elsewhere at Kongba Dhobi Lampak, AKSDO opened their Group B campaign with an emphatic 111-run victory over PTRC, Patsoi.
AKSDO raised 166 runs before collapsing in the 34th over (33.3) as PTRC’s Laitonjam Silky was unstoppable with the ball (5/32) but PTRC were bowled out for 55 runs within 16 overs to squander their chance of securing opening game win.
Olebia Khundrakpam 39 off 40 and Alish Thokchom 39 off 51 led the scoring for AKSDO earlier in the first innings that saw Silky, L Tolika (1/29), Th Dimple (1/8), L Benita (1/30) and L Linthoi (1/29) sharing 9 wickets for PTRC.
AKSDO bowlers however overhauled PTRC’s performance to give their rivals a nightmarish innings.
With Rabina Khundrakpam (3/18 in 5 overs), Th Alish (3/11), T Henthoisana (2/5 in 4 overs), and Kh Bijiya (2/19 in 3 overs) wreaking havoc, none of the PTRC batters were able to make double digit run.
Alish, who produced an allround show, was eventually adjudged player of the match.
