IMPHAL, May 20: A huge consignment of methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 19.21 crore was seized and two men from Moreh and Churachandpur districts were held in Mizoram yesterday.
The two arrested by Mizoram Police have been identified as Th Onkhothang Haokip (33), a resident of Moreh, and Mathew Vanlallian (46) from Jolzam in Churachandpur district, according to NE Now News.
The report said the two men were arrested with the methamphetamine tablets in Keifang in Saitual district.
The two smugglers were travelling in a Tata Nexon car from Manipur towards Aizawl when they were intercepted on suspicion of transporting contraband substances, said the report quoting Mizoram Police statement.
On searching the vehicle, the police recovered 20 bundles of methamphetamine tablets amounting to 2,02,000 tablets weighing 24.016 kilograms, estimated to be worth Rs 19.21 crore.
The drugs were found wrapped in black polythene packets concealed inside hidden compartments of the vehicle.
The Mizoram police have registered a case under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act, 1985 for further legal procedures. Investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the narcotics, said the report.
