MEELAL, FFM resolves to promote Meetei script in films

IMPHAL, May 21 : Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL), Kangleipak and Film Forum Manipur held a joint meeting on May 19 at the Film Forum office, Lamphel, to promote the Meetei script and language.
Film Forum members Ronel Meetei, Rakesh Naorem, M Purnananda, and Ksh Kisor Kumar joined MEELAL’s Langoljam Nongmailembi, Paonam Thakaba Meetei, Maibam Indrajit Meetei, Singamayum Chaoba, and Saikhom Meelan.
As per a release issued by MEELAL, the meeting resolved to: Continue existing credit-title practices in Manipuri films and work to include more error-free Meetei script; and Consult MEELAL for linguistic corrections in films.
Separately, MEELAL members and Ningthoukhong women submitted a memorandum to Ningthoukhong Municipal Council chairperson Laisram Ibungo, urging that the newly built “Ema Market” be renamed “Ema Keithel” in Meetei language.
The Chairperson assured positive consideration, for which MEELAL expressed thanks.
MEELAL, with Manipur in Kolkata (MIK), will also hold a free Meetei Mayek teaching programme for Manipuris in Kolkata on May 23, seeking public support for its mission to spread the script.
